FAITH-BASED FILM SHOW ME THE FATHER EARNS RARE A+ CINEMASCORE

A faith-based documentary about fatherhood opened in the Top 10 at the box office over the weekend and earned an A+ CinemaScore grade from moviegoers, marking the fourth time that a film from Alex and Stephen Kendrick earned a perfect score.

Show Me the Father, which opened at No. 9, tells the inspiring stories of fathers while weaving in biblical truths about the Fatherhood of God.

The film earned an A+ grade from CinemaScore, an exit polling service that asks moviegoers, on opening weekend, to grade a film.

Affirm Films, which released Show Me the Father, said on average, only about two films per year earn a perfect score.

The Kendricks produced the film, while Rick Altizer (Russ Taft: I Still Believe) directed it. The Kendricks previously earned A+ grades for Overcomer (2019), War Room (2015) and Courageous (2011).

It was made by their company, Kendrick Brothers Productions.

Show Me the Father has been moving people in a powerful way,” said Rich Peluso, executive vice president of Affirm Films. “Alex and Stephen Kendrick understand how to connect to the heart of a viewer, and that’s one of the reasons they have been so successful.”

Alex Kendrick is the only director ever to make three straight movies that earned an A+ rating (OvercomerWar Roomand Courageous). Director Rob Reiner also made three movies that earned an A+ rating (The Princess Bride, 1987; When Harry Met Sally, 1989; and A Few Good Men, 1992), but they weren’t released consecutively. Reiner’s movie Misery, which came out in 1990, received an A- rating.

Stephen Kendrick told Christian Headlines he’s heard stories of moviegoers watching it and revealing several days later, “I just reconciled with my dad.”

“I want it to be deeply impactful and for people to walk away emotionally full and spiritually blessed,” he said.
