The need to add moral values to the school curriculum was the key message passed by the management and staff of All Saints Church School, Ibadan, during a press conference to kick off a week-long celebration marking the 60th Founders Day celebration, of the school.

The management of the school, led by the school, chaplain who is also the minister in charge of the All Saints Church, Jericho, Ibadan, Venerable Oladipo Ajomale, and the head teacher, Mrs. Victoria Olaniyan, stated that in the society today, few people thought that moral values should be part of the academic curricula in the modern world, adding that this was the root of many problems facing the society today.

According to the management of the school, failure to teach moral values alongside academic subjects in schools was creating a huge problem in the society, as any child  who would not learn moral values would not be able to discern the difference between right and wrong.

Venerable Ajomale reiterated that the importance of incorporating moral values into education was to ensure that students did not only have the knowledge and skills needed to work and succeed, but also to have the emotional balance to be a part of a safe and peaceful society.

The school said that the act of incorporating morals into the school curriculum was what stood the All Saints Church School out as the school of first choice, when it came to providing quality education in a condusive environment and guided by Christian principles since its establishment on October 9, 1961 by a group of people who were in search of quality education for the children of the expatriates which was domiciled in Ibadan then.

The school said since it moved into its present location in 1966, it had remained a caring and friendly place where children could grow and learn, and it had continued to produce well-rounded leaders through excellence in academics and character development, with special attention to individual talents.

Other activities that took place in commemoration of the week-long 60th Founders Day celebration of the school included a symposium at the church hall, cultural\Ankara Day, inter school speech contest, novelty match and funfair, Founders Day luncheon and awards  and a thanksgiving service that will hold  at  the All Saints Church, Jericho, on Sunday.

The school disclosed that the appointment of a chaplain for the school was specifically to ensure that scriptural and moral values remain entrenched in the school in line with the vision of the founding fathers to give holistic education balanced with morality to prepare students to be good citizens in society.

Mrs. Olaniyan added that the school embarked on a curriculum review to update and upgrade its academic standard in teaching the pupils in accordance with the latest 21st century teaching practices, to align with the Nigerian curriculum.
