EASTER CHURCH SERVICES MUST NOT LAST LONGER THAN 2 HOURS – IGP

As Christians prepare for Easter festivity, the Inspector General of Police James Oppong-Boanuh has asked Christians in Ghana to continue to enforce the covid-19 protocols and not use the opportunity of the season’s activities to flout it.

In a statement issued on Friday, 26 March 2021, and signed by the Director of Public Affairs, SP Sheila Abayie-Buckman, which was made available to ModernGhana.com, it says that churches “are expected to implement a mandatory one-meter rule of social distancing between congregants, ensuring that each congregant wears a mask at all times; providing handwashing facilities and alcohol-based sanitizer for all persons”.

It further stressed that churches are not allowed to hold services or activities longer than 2 hours at any particular time.

IGP Oppong-Boanuh says, church must continue to maintain “a register of names and contact details of all congregants; and ensuring that the place of worship has fresh air ventilation, rather than relying on the use of air conditioners”.

He adds that officers in plain uniform will be dispatched to monitor compliance and violators would be punished.
