NIGERIA NEEDS A DELIVERER NOT A LEADER – BISHOP OYEDEPO

Nigerians have become used to increased involvement of men of God (Cristian leaders) in the political affairs of the nation. While some Pastors over the years have participated in competitive politics, some others have continued to serve as a voice of caution or direction to Nigerians and politicians.

One of the most prominent political voices on the altar, which speaks at politicians is the General Overseer of Winners Chapel International. Bishop David Oyedepo once again spoke against what could be described as injustice, poor management of the economy and non-performance by the political leaders of nation Nigeria.

During a sermon delivered on day three of Shiloh 2022, Bishop Oyedepo says, “the only thing of value to the world today is the church in Nigeria. Economy battered, security zero.”

He laments of the mismanagement of the economy. He reminded Nigerians that he spoke against the populist view of electing President Buhari into power in 2015 but many people went against his views.

“It is not experience that makes a prophet. It’s a call. I warned this nation in 2015 that we were heading for crisis and trauma. I saw a nation going down the drain, I cried.

“There is nothing I have said about this land that has failed.”

While he believes his views were not considered, like those he calls “prophets of politicians who speak what they (politicians) want to hear,” he promises to continue to speak to issues as long as God gives him utterance. Nobody, he says, can stop him because “the destiny of Nigeria is hanging. The money distributors are busy distributing. They are never tired.”

Bishop Oyedepo is a minister of the gospel, fearless and consistently speaking against bad political leadership. He has not been seen publicly supporting any candidate but he is known to speak against the candidacy of any politician based on what he calls God’s revelation to him or a subject as simply as fairness or inclusivity.

He spoke against the choice of President Muhammadu Buhari and the decision by the APC Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket against the cry of Christian faithful for inclusion.

His speech at this year’s Shiloh has been described by many, particularly social media analysts as an endorsement of Mr. Peter Obi the Labour Party candidate who attended this year’s Shiloh convention seeing that, Bishop Oyedepo’s speech on the poor state of affairs came after the latter welcomed the Labour Party flagbearer to the convention ground.

“What we need now is not a leader. It’s a deliverer. Almost nothing remains except the church. You can see it yourself.” He says as he continues to address the attendees. He insists that we need a deliverer who can transform the fortune of Nigeria and not a mere leader.
