PROPHET OLADELE GENESIS WADES INTO THE ONIDURO MI CONTROVERSY, SAYS “THAT SONG IS FOR ME”

Days after the video of Gospel Artiste, Tope Alabi analysing the lyrics of ‘Oniduro Mi’ song went viral, many artistes; gospel and secular alike have come out to defend Adeyinka Alaseyori, the performer of the song and express their love for the song.

In a video on YouTube, Lanre ‘Atorise’ Terbia is seen mocking the popular Gospel Artiste, Tope Alabi. The most recent and significant reaction comes from Prophet Oladele Genesis.

During the Sunday Service at his Church in Alakuko, Lagos, Prophet Oladele Genesis spoke highly of the song and the impact of the song on his life. His reaction to the song was expressed through his own rendition of the infamous Oniduro Mi song. His rendition was interlaced with words of praise unto God. Throughout his ministration, he repeatedly called God, Oniduro Mi.

Sometime during his performance, he encouraged his members to sing out the song, do a video with it and let it go viral.

He said, “nobody should sing this song more than you. And I want you to do a video with it. Let it fly everywhere.”

However, unlike previous reactions by other celebrities and personalities, Prophet Oladele Genesis didn’t give a direct response to Minister Tope Alabi, he talked about the role of God as an advocate in the life of man.

“Maybe you don’t know, maybe you don’t know, if you don’t understand the song, that song is actually for me. My Oniduro! He is my Advocate. He stood by me when everyone pulled back, and departed from me; when they didn’t want to publicly associate with me.”

He described God as the ever-reliable God who will never let his children down.

“When people stand for you, they will take glory over your life.

He reflected on his adversity in 2020, which tarnished his image. He said, at some point his mother lost hope, she looked at him and said, “I can’t stand for you but God will arise for you.”

He indicates that during his adversity, the influential people he knew turned their back on him but God stood up for him. Many of them didn’t want to associate with him because of the bad press.

“No connection, no capacity, but my Advocate stood for me in adversity. It is better for Good to be your Advocate. If men do, they will oppress you over it.

“I was set free when nobody expected it. The artiste sang that song for me. I was set free when nobody expected it. I was set free while the Judicial workers were on strike.”

Playing the role of a unifier, at some point during his ministration, Prophet Oladele Genesis sang a medley of ‘Oniduro Mi’ by Adeyinka Alaseyori and ‘Iyanu’ by Tope Alabi.

It would be recalled that in November 2020, he was sentenced to prison after years of trial. But in April 2021, the Appeal court granted him a post-conviction bail being a first-time offender and on health grounds while he awaits hearing of his appeal.
