Young and enthusiastic gospel artiste and producer, Ebenezer Ayeni has been killed by armed robbers, a week from his wedding ceremony. The news of his fatal attack flooded social media Friday morning as his friends and admirers expressed sadness and shock at his passing. He is said to have been shot in an armed robbery attack on Thursday, June 10.
Report says, he was rushed to the hospital after the attack but both a private hospital and government, University College Hospital, UCH Ibadan refused to admit or treat him on condition that a ‘police report’ should be provided before treatment would commence. This information was provided by a friend of the deceased, MC Shayor Comedian, who lamented about the unprofessionalism of the medical staff of both hospitals in his Facebook post.
“Your government has failed you. UCH has failed you. Nigeria has failed you. I was still discussing with Bishop Anifowose Oluwasinaayomi how we will dance and spray you money next week Saturday. Your wedding clothe that I bought is ready. I spoke to your wife-to-be, …she said I should wake you up for her.”
His friend and school mate Adewale Taiwo says, “how do I believe this? Someone that I still saw on Wednesday leading our department fellowship. We were still together in school till 1pm on that same Wednesday before we departed, not knowing that was the last moment with him.”
Another admirer, Esther Ajisebiyawo said, “I’m chokingly scared for this nation. The failed state has sadly cost us another minstrel; a vibrant young man. I never met you in person but what I heard about you is a total testimony of a rising star, the hope of this generation, a minister of God as well as a mentor to many (including my kid sister, Toluwani Ajisebiyawo). Our consolation is that you are now with your Maker. Earth lost a saint; heaven gained an angel.”
Heben, as he’s fondly called died few hours after both hospitals refused to treat him. Scores of fans and friends have taken to social media to lament about the misconduct of the medical practitioners who demanded for a police report instead of treating Heben. This process has been outlawed and hospitals are no longer required to demand for a police report before treating a victim who is struggling for life.
Since his passing, on Thursday, fans continue to celebrate his life through social media posts. And a hashtag #justiceforebenezerayeni has been launched on Facebook.
Akinlade Juliana, a friend and school mate wrote a poem in celebration of the life of Ebenezer Ayeni.
OH DEATH! YOUR DEBT IS A MUST TO PAY
Tribute to LATE EBENEZER AYENI, By Akinlade Juliana – The Polytechnic Ibadan
Music Technology Department
With tears in our eyes
Pains in our hearts
We refuse to believe the exist of a general
Oh death! Where is thy string?
You died of a gun shot
As armed robbers invaded your house,
You stood for truth as you refused to lead them somewhere else
Oh death! You brought this news to us😭
How can a police report become so important than a life?
Why do our medical practitioners fail at their post?
Two hospitals rejected him because of police report. Kai!
Oh death! Is that your plan?
You fought for your life but lost it
You struggled to survive yet you couldn’t
Yet, you didn’t fail, you won
Oh death! Hope you know he won
We never see it coming
Maybe if we had seen it
We would have prayed it away
Oh death! Your debt is a must to pay!
Although our hearts are broken,
There’s no need to weep for you.
You are in a wonderful place now,
Where you are happy and so carefree.
Oh death! Where is thy power?
EBEN,
You had to go, but you’ve left behind
Good memories to comfort us.
We would Concentrate on the best times we had,
And try not to feel so blue.
Oh death! Is this all you could do?
Ha! We’ll miss most of it all
How you showed us Christ
And set our gaze on the cross
Your love was so strong and real
Oh death! Will you take all these away from us too?
There are others here who miss you,
Music Technology department
The Polytechnic, Ibadan
Weep of her legend who left unnoticed,
Oh death! Why?
The large house family
Is filled with sadness and grief
All students and friends
Are disheartened
No one really wants to say goodbye.
Oh death! You turned Eben a spirit so soon.
With pain in my heart, I write this tribute to
LATE EBENEZER AYENI.
