SINACH, WAYMAKER BAG DOVE AWARD

A lot of Christians have read and still meditate over the bible passage “A little one shall become a thousand, and a small one a strong nation: I the Lord will hasten it in his time,” Isaiah 60 vs 22. Of importance to this article is the part B of the verse, which says “I the Lord will hasten it in His time.”

5 years after releasing the award winning Waymaker, Sinach has gained recognition in the world’s most celebrated Gospel Music Award, “GMA Dove Awards.” At the event that held on Friday 30th October, her popular track, Waymaker won the “Song of the Year” award.

Even as the Lord promised in Isaiah 43, “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert” Sinach wins a Dove Award setting a new record as the first African to win that prestigious category.

Like her, many of her fans had moved onto other inspiring songs, which she has released since 2015 including “Jesus is alive,” “In love with you” etc. But this year, Waymaker became an anthem in the midst of COVID-19, which sparked a revival.

The song was introduced to the US market and many remixes followed. Michael W. Smith, Leeland, Passion Music Band and Mandisa are a few of the artistes who did a remake version in USA not to mention others reproduced other languages.

This year has been a great year for Sinach. It is a year God decided to reward her hard work and set her on a new course. She became the first Nigerian Gospel Artiste to hit one million subscribers on YouTube. In May she hit the No.1 spot on Billboard Christian Songwriters chat, a position she would later hold for 12 weeks; the first African to attain this height.

She also set the record of having two different versions of Waymaker by Leeland and Michael W. Smith on Top 10 Hot Christian Songs Chart at No. 9 and No. 3 respectively. According to billboard, this “marks the first time in the history of Hot Christian Songs that two versions of the same song have resided simultaneously in the top 10.”

Just like the song, God made a way for her this year in the midst of the global disruption.

At the award ceremony, she performed the track, Waymaker alongside Leeland, Mandisa and Maverick City Music.

She had a total of 3 nominations for three versions of Waymaker including “Spanish Language recorded Song of the Year” and “Worship recorded Song of the Year.”
