Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church has lost his father. Yuriy Shevchuk who was 79 at the time of death passed away on the 5th of December in the United States of America after a serious illness.
Condolence messages have been pouring in for the Archbishop particularly from within the Christian faith. Pope Francis sent a message expressing deep sorrow” over the passing of Mr. Yuriy Shevchuk.
Due to the on-going war between Ukraine and Russia, Archbishop Shevchuk is unable to attend his father’s funeral and bid his final goodbye.
The death of his father comes 20 months after the passing of his mother. He says it has been a sad experience not being able to be by his father who was in the USA taking treatment for his illness till his death.
